Bivariant K-theory via Correspondences

چکیده

We use correspondences to define a purely topological equivariant bivariant K-theory for spaces with a proper groupoid action. Our notion of correspondence differs slightly from that of Connes and Skandalis. We replace smooth K-oriented maps by a class of K-oriented normal maps, which are maps together with a certain factorisation. Our construction does not use any special features of equivariant K-theory. To highlight this, we construct bivariant extensions for arbitrary equivariant multiplicative cohomology theories. We formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for certain duality isomorphisms in the geometric bivariant K-theory and verify these conditions in some cases, including smooth manifolds with a smooth cocompact action of a Lie group. One of these duality isomorphisms reduces bivariant K-theory to K-theory with support conditions. Since similar duality isomorphisms exist in Kasparov theory, both bivariant K-theories agree if there is such a duality

, Duality and D - Branes in Bivariant K - Theory

We describe a categorical framework for the classification of D-branes on noncommutative spaces using techniques from bivariant K-theory of C∗-algebras. We present a new description of bivariant K-theory in terms of noncommutative correspondences which is nicely adapted to the study of T-duality in open string theory. We systematically use the diagram calculus for bivariant K-theory as detailed...

Categorical Aspects of Bivariant K-theory

This survey article on bivariant Kasparov theory and E-theory is mainly intended for readers with a background in homotopical algebra and category theory. We approach both bivariant K-theories via their universal properties and equip them with extra structure such as a tensor product and a triangulated category structure. We discuss the construction of the Baum– Connes assembly map via localisa...

Unbounded Bivariant K-theory and Correspondences in Noncommutative Geometry

By adapting the algebraic notion of universal connection to the setting of unbounded KK-cycles, we show that the Kasparov product of such cycles can be defined directly, by an algebraic formula. In order to achieve this it is necessary to develop a framework of smooth algebras and a notion of differentiable C∗-module. The theory of operator spaces provides the required tools. Finally, the above...

D-branes and Bivariant K-theory

We review various aspects of the topological classification of D-brane charges in K-theory, focusing on techniques from geometric K-homology and Kasparov’s KK-theory. The latter formulation enables an elaborate description of D-brane charge on large classes of noncommutative spaces, and a refined characterization of open string T-duality in terms of correspondences and KK-equivalence. The examp...

Bivariant K-theory for Smooth Manifolds I Lectures By: Heath Emerson (joint Work with Ralf Meyer) Notes By: Robin Deeley and Elkaioum Moutuou

A. The aim of this talk and the next is to explain two important aspects of equivariant Kasparov theory, especially for smooth manifolds: duality, and the topological description of equivariant KK-groups using equivariant correspondences. In the first talk we will review the basic definitions of KK-theory, including the Thom isomorphism. We then explain duality, which gives a way of redu...
